Medically, post acne scars can be classified as Box scars, Ice pick scars, Rolling scars… but I’m sure that’s not what you want to know. What you want to know is whether acne scar treatment can really get rid of acne scars from your skin?
We have already discussed how with the advent of advanced chemical peels, acne can be completely cleared in about 2 months. But even after the acne is long gone, the post acne scars continue to mock us in the face! Pun intended.
Picking on acne surely causes scars. But surprisingly, acne scars can form even if you haven’t touched your skin. Simply explained, acne scars are formed as a result of inflamed and infected acne. When the acne or pimple is large enough or deep enough to reach down to the dermis, it leaves behind a scar. Acne scars typically look like small craters or dents in the skin. These scars can be wide and shallow or pin point sized and deep. Ice pick scars may even be mistaken for enlarged pores.
Now coming to your question. Yes, acne scars can be treated completely. Well completely or nearly completely, as it does depend to some extent on your age and the type of scars. All you need is expert guidance and patience. The process may take 4 to 6 months, but it will definitely be worth the time, money and energy invested!
The most effective modalities of acne scar treatment that i have used in my practice are the medical dermaroller treatment coupled with a patented collagen boosting serum. These sessions are done with or without scar subscision depending on the type of scars present. Dermaroller can also be effectively combined with PRP therapy. Either the onlay technique or sandwich technique can be employed depending on the age of the patient. This has the dual advantage of better scar repair and a non surgical face lift in mature patients. The final result also depends greatly on the pre-treatment and intra-treatment medications. Lasers are not a favourite of mine due to the sensitivity and post laser bronzing they cause. And also due to their compromised efficacy in Indian skin.
I like to keep my patients very comfortable during treatments. The anesthetic cream needs to be applied on the skin for a good 60-90 minutes before treatment to reach complete numbness. Adequately achieved numbness = comfortable patients + happy doctor! Comfortable patients allow me to do the session at full intensity.
So acne scar treatment is definitely possible. In my opinion, doctors who complain that acne scars can not be treated with good results are the ones who have some how missed the importance of intricacy of the treatment protocol. It’s all about unique tailoring of the treatment for best results in each and every patient.
